Although a Greek film has won top honors from the Shanghai International Film Festival, Thailand’s “The Last Executioner” didn’t go without distinction.

Judges yesterday gave best actor props to the film’s lead actor Vithaya Pansringarm, who portrays the biopic’s subject, Chavoret Jaruboon.

Vithaya, 55, only started acting four years ago and gained notoriety and acclaim for portraying a dark force of nature in 2013’s “Only God Forgives” alongside pretty pretty Ryan Gosling.

“The Last Executioner” tells the story of the last man to carry out Thailand’s death-by-firing squad at Bangkwan prison, the notorious “Bangkok Hilton.”

It opens domestically on July 3. Read our interview with Vithaya and director Tom Waller here.

Greek film “Little England” won the Golden Goblet Award for best film and best director at the festival which was held last week.
