Video of two foreign women allegedly drowning dog in Pattaya causes controversy

A video featuring what has been described as two foreign women drowning their tiny dog at Pattaya’s Jomtien beach made headlines in local media today and reasons for the the alleged “killing” remain unknown.

Kanya Mabchareon, a vendor who rents beach chairs in the area, claimed to have witnessed the horrific event. She said one of the women walked into the sea and put the dog under the water while the other one watched on Sunday morning.

The dog was reportedly wrapped in a towel.

“One of the women stood on the shore. The other took the dog into the water. I thought she only wanted to play with the dog in the water,” she told Thai PBS.

Kanya said the woman was in the water for 10 minutes before taking the dog back to the shore. She went back into the water for the second time, and at that point, the vendor started to notice something was wrong.

“No one forbade them because they thought she was playing with the dog. But the dog was not moving…When she brought it back to the shore, it was not moving,” Kanya responded, when the Morning News reporter asked how she found out the dog was dead.

Photos of the women holding the dog were also shared on Facebook, but the poster said he did not take them himself and got the photos from someone he knew.

The story has caused controversy on social media, with people criticizing the two women for their actions, while others speculated that the dog may have been ill and needed to be put to sleep.

Some people also scolded the person who filmed the video, saying that the witness should have stepped in to inquire what was going on.

Pattaya police have been informed of the story and will track down the two foreigners for questioning.
