The scene that initially unfolds in the massively viral video is far from unusual in Thailand’s Isaan region — locals going wild to the sounds of the Thai folk music known as molum — but it’s the surprise ending that has sent it into social media overdrive.
In a hilarious video that has been watched nearly 5 million times since Monday, a group of Thai teens can be seen twerking in the middle of a field as a molum band plays music from a nearby bus. Some dudes stood and twerked. Some chicks got on all fours to do it (as is the style).
That’s when their little party is crashed by a rampaging herd of cows that randomly careens through the field, resulting in the teens wisely scattering in different directions.
It’s not clear where specifically the video was shot, but the Facebook page that posted it gave credit to a molum band called “Salapao Music,” which is based in Khon Kaen.
While most people just laughed at the video, some expressed their concerns that the twerking — sometimes referred to as “doggy style” in Thai — is not age appropriate participants.
Others simply said the sight of the twerking was so unbearable, even the cows had to stop it.
