A pickup truck this morning plunged six stories from a car park on top of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) office building outside of Bangkok.
The driver escaped just in time — narrowly avoiding death.
At the time of the accident, Jiraphat Weerachartwattana, the 58-year-old driver, had just returned to the parking lot after finishing an application for a license to sell cosmetics, reported Thairath.
CCTV footage shows he had barely stepped into his vehicle when he started the engine and the car went into reverse.
Jiraphat jumped out right before the truck crashed through the concrete wall and went over the edge. He suffered only minor injuries.
Another woman, who can be seen in the video approaching the passenger seat, also had a lucky escape as she hadn’t yet gotten into the car.
Fortunately, there was no one below when the car landed harmlessly in a bush at the base of the building.
Jiraphat told the police that he forgot to put the car in park before turning off the engine, according to The Nation.
Nevertheless, FDA secretary general Dr. Tharet Kratnairawiwong said the administration will review the strength of their concrete parking lot walls, reported Khaosod.
Tharet added that the FDA will not demand the man pay damages.
He’s just happy nobody was seriously hurt.
