Yesterday, a 34-year-old Cambodian woman gave birth to a baby girl while inside a taxi at Sena Nikhom Intersection on Prasert Manukitch Road in Bangkok’s Lat Phrao district.
Surasith Paenoi, a 25-year-old taxi driver, told Dailynews that the mother, who was later identified as Plea, was on her way from a construction worker’s camp on Ramintra 14 Road to Nopparat Hospital. Plea’s water broke halfway through the journey, forcing Surasith to pull his car over at a traffic checkpoint to ask for help.
It took paramedics 20 minutes to deliver the baby, using the car’s back seat as an impromptu birthing ward. Plea and her daughter are now recovering at Paolo Nawamin Hospital.
