An annual tradition of laying wreaths before the armed forces as represented in Bangkok’s Victory Monument will be canceled this year.
The decision to cancel Monday’s ceremonies comes as anti-government protesters remain encamped around the site, where nearly 30 people were injured in a grenade attack earlier this month.
A defense ministry spokesman, Col. Paphathip Sawangsaeng, said there will be no parade or wreath-laying, but some religious events honoring veterans, fallen soldiers and their spirits will continue as planned.
However fund raising for veterans and their families will continue, with flowers have been on sale at many locations for THB20, Khaosod reported.
