A driver on the Chonburi-Rayong route was charged THB10,000 after Land Transport officials saw a social media post about him carrying more than the legal limit of passengers.

Driver Pipat Intharathud was called in for questioning after one of his passengers, Pahin Joe Tongma, posted on Facebook on Monday night that the driver had taken more than the new legal limit of 12 passengers. The new laws came into effect in April.

In fact, the driver had the nerve to allow several standing passengers in the aisles.

The Chonburi Land Transport Office could pick out the van in the post as belonging to Sukhumvit Transport Co. Ltd. from which they could narrow it down further to being the vehicle driven by Pipat, reported The Nation.

The driver had to pay THB5,000 for failing to obey the passenger limit and another THB5,000 for ignoring road rules. His license was also suspended for 30 days.

A Coconuts staff member took a van from Ban Phe to Bangkok on Monday evening and was pleased to see that the driver obeyed the speed and passenger limit, seemed rested, took a break of 15 minutes halfway through, as outlined in the new laws, and even smiled once at passengers.

Will wonders never cease?
