A Bangkok hotel will be fined for flooding a city canal with used condoms and other toiletries.

After photos of Sunday’s mess went from vile to viral, the hotel responsible for choking the waterway with contraceptive effluent will be fined THB10,000 (US$320) for violating sanitation codes.

“We’ve never had this issue before, but the hotel will take responsibility and be charged for this, for the evidence very clearly points to them,” Bangkok Yai district office director Karuna told Channel One News.

Though the hotel was not named and properly shamed, its identified location matches the West Inn on Charan Sanitwong Road, a name also seen on some of the torn packaging floating in the canal.

Several calls to West Inn this morning went unanswered.

According to media reports, an unidentified hotel rep blamed a private trash collector for the midnight dump.
