US ambassador declines comment on deportation of ‘Louis Vuitton’ monk

Having fled to the world’s leading bastion of material consumption, it looks like defrocked monk Wirapol Sukphol, who was roundly criticized for living a life of luxury/financial malfeasance, may stay put – for the moment at least.

The Bangkok Post is reporting that US Ambassador Kristie Kenney, when questioned about a Department of Special Investigations (DSI) request to extradite Wirapol to Thailand, said that she had not yet discussed the matter with Thailand’s Justice Minister.

Justice Minister Chaikasem Nitisiri echoed these sentiments, saying that the request to extradite Wirapol would likely be processed after Thai authorities had completed their investigation into the monk’s myriad crimes.

The Bangkok Post reports that Wirapol’s passport has, however, been revoked, meaning that the ex-monk is liable to remain in the States until justice is rendered.
