UPDATE: Parliament officials stop hunt for water monitor lizard

Yesterday, officers of the Thai Parliament House spent hours hunting for a monitor lizard that had escaped into the building’s air ducts, yet were unable to capture the reptile.

The officers decided to cease their operations following many failed attempts to catch the animal, meaning that the monitor lizard is now a permanent, uninvited guest of the legislative house.

Since the lizard has adopted Parliament House’s air vents as its new home, one can only hope that the animal will choose to vacate the premises prior to its death. If the animal does expire while still residing in Parliament House’s ductwork, it is likely that Thai lawmakers will get a long break while officials find and remove its remains.

Check out the video clip below to witness the lizard’s last known sighting.
