Shocking photos showing a puppy in Thailand’s upcountry bringing home a rat snake to his owner’s farm are going viral this week, but netizens have serious doubts about this “unlikely friendship.”

The photos were reportedly taken by the dog’s owner, a farmer in northern Lampang province, and were later reposted by Thai Facebook page “Dog Cry”, which shares photos and videos of cute dogs.

“Dog brings a new friend home! By the way, rat snakes are nonvenomous,” the caption on Dog Cry readers.

Netizens, however, are wondering out loud whether the erstwhile unlikely friendship was staged, with some suggesting the snake may not even be alive.

“Judging from the way the snake wraps itself around the dog, it looks dead,” one user said.

Others were more concerned with the dog’s safety, presuming that the snake was, y’know, actually alive.

“Please be careful, honey,” one user said.

According to Dog Cry’s admin, the puppy brought home a snake one day when its owner was cutting grass around the house.

Coconuts has messaged the farmer in question and is waiting to hear back. For now, we’ll withhold judgement on what’s an admittedly dubious tale of snake-puppy friendship.
