University, utility unveil electric bus they helped develop

The first electric bus to provide local service in Thailand and partly developed here has been unveiled by the Provincial Electricity Authority and Suranaree University of Technology on Thursday.

The 43-seater, emission-free “PEA Ze-bus” will begin service next year, according to the authority, who will test and evaluate the vehicle’s readiness in the next six months before putting into service internally for staff.

The Ze-bus’ electronic control unit and design was developed locally. The bus has a low floor to accommodate people with disabilities, and is equipped with Wifi internet access and a GPS tracking system, MCOT reported.

The authority will promote the use of electric buses as it says they can lead to halving energy costs.
