A large monsoon pounding Myanmar’s Andaman coast will continue to pelt Bangkok and most of Thailand with rain for the foreseeable future, state meteorologists forecast.
A day after Bangkok was hit with heavy rainfall, more wet is expected across much of the metro area today, followed by a flood-prone Friday, a super saturated Saturday, and soggy Sunday with rain over most of the capital for the next 10 days.
Wednesday’s watery blitz buried parts of the capital area in over 25 millimeters of water in six hours, with Phra Khanong seeing the most at 36.5 millimeters.
Lows are forecast to hit 26C for the next week with highs hovering between 31C and 32C.
Nationwide, meteorologists warn that 43 provinces covering 70% of the country will be inundated due to. The storm will drive rain across Thailand’s northern, northeastern, central, eastern, and southern regions.
People in those areas should be aware of the dangers posed by heavy and accumulated rainfall, which may cause flash floods and overflowing rivers, especially in hilly and low-lying areas.
A small craft advisory has been issued through Sunday in the upper gulf where strong winds will likely drive waves of up to 3 meters. Slightly small waves of 2 meters are expected in the lower gulf.
