A new study on the cost of international city vacations is doing the rounds, and while we were pleased to see Bangkok rated as the number one best value big city for a short vacation, we are a bit mystified by the other entries on the list.
Tokyo, Beijing, Dubai, and Cape Town round out the Top 5, while Singapore, Washington DC, Toronto, New York, and Boston also make the list. Um, aside from Bangkok, none of those cities are known as budget-friendly, and several of them are considered downright cost-prohibitive.
The survey, by a site called Post Office Travel Money and republished recently by The Mirror, supposedly considered the cost of 11 travel necessities including sightseeing, transportation to and from the airport, food and drink, and three nights in a hotel.
They say that they added the costs together to create a full cost for three days but their full numbers did not seem to be revealed. They said that it cost about GBP316 (THB13,700) to spend three days in Bangkok, which sounds about right, but we doubt we’d get even one night in a hotel in Dubai for that price.
