Tropical storm Noru is blamed for at least one death and two injuries as it batters the Isaan region today.

One resident of Sisaket province was killed this morning when strong winds from the former “super typhoon” toppled a tree onto a pickup truck, killing one and injuring two in the vehicle, according to the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department this morning.

Heavy rains caused flash flooding, damaging at least half a dozen homes in Amnat Charoen province. A road in Yasothon city collapsed, affecting motorists in the area.

Another hard-hit province, Ubon Ratchathani, also experienced flash floods after an upward of 230 millimeters of rain were recorded in its Sirindhorn district. Three flights hailing from Bangkok yesterday were forced to turn back after pilots could not land at Ubon Ratchathani’s airport.

Typhoon Noru weakened into a tropical storm after making landfall yesterday in Vietnam.

Bangkok Gov. Chadchart Sittipunt this morning inspected the Klong Prem canal and a floodgate in Phra Khanong. He said the highest rain level recorded this morning was 70 millimeters in the Sai Mai district followed by 50 millimeters in Lat Krabang.

Disaster officials advised people to closely monitor the forecast and prepare for heavy rains and strong winds. Contact hotline 1784 24 hours a day for information in Thai.

Bangkok is forecast to be heading into a very wet weekend, with large amounts of rain over nearly all of the metropolitan area before returning to the usual rain over most of the city starting Tuesday.
