Two Thais survived Emirates plane crash-landing; Firefighter killed on scene

Two Thai passengers survived an Emirates Airlines flight when it crash-landed at Dubai International Airport on Wednesday but a firefighter was killed.

The crash-landing of Emirates Airline flight EK521 occurred at 4:45pm Thai time (12:45pm Dubai time). The plane was on route to Dubai from India.

It was reported that the 282 passenger, of over 20 nationalities, and 18 crew members on the flight survived the crash. This includes the two unidentified Thai passengers, reported Bangkok Post.

According to Emirates Chairman and Chief Executive, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, ten people were brought to the hospital following the crash landing. While a firefighter who responded to the scene was killed.

The Associated Press reported that upon landing, the emergency exits were open by the cabin crew and evacuation was complete within minutes.

It was also reported that a passenger on the flight, Iype Vallikadan, said the pilot made an announcement that he would have to make an emergency landing as there was a problem with the landing gear.

The cause of the landing gear malfunction has yet to be disclosed by Emirates.

Social media images shows the plane on fire at the airport runway, along with reports of smoke at the area from users.
