Two contractors turn themselves in over fatal SCB accident

Two executives of the company which was contracted to improve the fire system of SCB Park Plaza turned themselves in today.

Adisorn Phoka and Napong Suksa-nguan, Mega Planet’s managing director and authorised manager respectively, reported to Paholyothin police today to face a recklessness charge over the gas leakage incident at the SCB headquarters on Sunday night which killed 8 people.

It is reported that the pyrogen-based fire extinguishing system was mistakenly set off, releasing a toxic gas that caused people inside to suffocate.

Arrest warrants for the two executives were issued yesterday after police questioned 15 people and collected evidence.

If found guilty, the two could face 10 years in prison and a THB20,000 fine.

Police have not concluded their investigation and are still determining whether more people were responsible for the fatal incident, Thai PBS reported.
