Two arrested for murder of Myanmar woman in Phuket, one confesses

Police arrested two men from Myanmar in Phuket on Saturday for the murder of a Myanmar woman on August 10.

Police say one of the arrested men confessed to strangling the female victim following a domestic argument.

On Thursday, Chalong Police began investigating the murder of a 20-year-old female Myanmar national, identified only as Thida, who was found dead in her room in Rawai.

On Saturday, Lt. Col. Pathak Khwanna, of Phuket Provincial Police, together with Lt. Col. Pongphop Prasopphichai, of Chalong Police, arrested Myanmar nationals Han Nuay Lane, 24, said to be the ex-boyfriend of Thida and Ung Stuay Oh, 32, at a worker’s camp in Chalong at 12:30am.

Police seized two mobile phones, a gold ring, THB3,500 cash and an earring believed to have belonged to Thida.

Police also seized THB9,000 that they believed was money the suspects got for selling a gold bracelet that they believe had also belonged to Thida.

Han was charged with murder and theft while Ung was charged with theft.

Lt. Col. Pongphop said “Han confessed that he used a belt to strangle Thida. Han tried to reconcile with Thida but but she refused, so they argued. After killing Thida he took her valuables and sold them.”
