Officials from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit have announced that the undetonated bomb that was found on Tuesday isn’t related to the other three recent bombing incidents, as was speculated.
Since April, three bombs have gone off in Bangkok. The first one detonated on April 5 in front of the Government Lottery Office. One month later, on May 15, the second blew up occurred in front of the National Theater. Recently, a third bomb exploded at the Phramongkutklao Hospital, leaving 25 injured.
When another pipe bomb was found on Tuesday, Police General Chakthip Chaijinda suspected that there might be a link between all the recent bombing incidents.
However, Pol. Col. Kamthon Ouicharoen from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal revealed that the latest bomb is metal pipe filled with gunpowder. The other bombs were filled with ball bearings or nails inside, reported Thai PBS.
This latest bomb is similar to detonated pipe bombs that went off in 2014 in Minburi and in 2015 at the Siam BTS station.
Suspects were arrested for the Minburi bombing, which was thought to be politically motivated.
