A transgender student provocateur from Thammasat Unversity has been summoned by police to appear Tuesday to hear charges she defamed the monarchy.

In September, the host of a television show accused  Saran “Aum Neko” Chuichai of insulting the royal family during an interview and filed a complaint under Article 112 of the criminal code, Khaosod reported.

Many conservative Thais have condemned Saran, whose brand of iconoclasm is risky behavior in Thailand. Late last year she invited controversy by trying to replace the flag flying above Thammasat’s administrative building with a black flag to protest perceived political bias of her university’s dean. For these actions, the university, once famed for its progressive policies, is considering whether to expel her.

She posed in a bikini in the university’s cafeteria and created racy “advertisements” to criticize mandatory uniforms.
