Tranquil travel: India considers waiving visas for Thai citizens

Thais may soon be able to head to the beautiful Taj Mahal and float down the Ganges River without the stress of applying for visas.

India’s Vice-President Mohammad Hamid Ansari said during his visit to Thailand last week that India is considering a visa exemption for citizens of Asean countries.

The move aims to encourage tourists to explore the origins of Buddhism in India, an activity which has been increasingly popular in recent years, said Ansari.

The vice-president visited Thailand during Feb. 3-5 to meet Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha and discuss the two nations’ relationship in terms of economics, tourism, culture, and academia, Nation TV reported.
