For raping a minor and throwing her body off a Bangkok-bound train,Wanchai Saengkao was found guilty and sentenced to die today in a Hua Hin provincial court.
The railway employee was arrested in July for the rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl he then pushed out a window somewhere in Prachuap Khiri Khan province.
The court today sentenced the 22-year-old to death after he was convicted of murder, rape of a minor under 15, theft, concealing a dead body and drug use.
The court said Wanchai only confessed to the crime due to the weight of evidence against him, not out of any sense of remorse.
Therefore, his punishment was not commuted.
Meanwhile, a rail worker Nattakorn Chamnarn, 19, whom police believed was an accomplice in Wanchai Sangkao’s alleged rape-murder, was given a six-year jail term.
Nattakorn reportedly confessed to the crime during questioning but later withdrew it saying it was coerced under pressure by police. He did not plead guilty in the court this morning, and his punishment was commuted to four years.
