A 15-year-old student was reportedly assaulted by a state rail worker while catching a train home from college in Chumphon province last week.
The victim filed a complaint this Saturday against 53-year-old Sumet Trapop, a State Railway of Thailand employee, for assaulting her on the train Wednesday.
The technical college student said that she boarded a train at Chumphon Railway Station to travel home within the province when Sumet, who checked her ticket, told her to move to another seat before he came to sit next to her and began molesting her.
The victim said there were only three passengers in the compartment so she decided to not fight back, fearing Sumet would attack her or throw her off the train just like the unfortunate train rape case last year.
“Then he told me to go to another compartment. I said I wouldn’t go and tried to call my dad,” she said. “He took my phone and then attacked me. I took the phone back, Lined my dad and tried to take his photo.”
After reaching her destination at Khao Suan Thurian station, Sumet reportedly escaped into the wood on the roadside, but the victim’s father and family found him and beat him before chasing him away. Then they went to the police.
Police charge the rail worker with sexually assault and will track him down, Matichon reported.
State railway of Thailand said it has initially suspended Sumet and will question him. The organization also apologized according to the announcement Saturday.
Last year, a 13-year-old girl was raped and thrown off a Bangkok-bound train by rail worker Wanchai Saengkao. He was sentenced to death by the Appeals Court last week.
