The worsening traffic situation has topped a list of five urban difficulties facing Bangkok residents.

A recent study, conducted by Dhurakij Pundit University and funded by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), revealed that Bangkokians rated gridlock as the most pressing issue facing the city. Also-rans on the list included waste, water pollution and flooding, life safety and drug abuse.

BMA spokesperson Tridao Apaiwong told MThai that the BMA has assigned relevant agencies to investigate and solve the city’s traffic problems. Meanwhile, Bangkokians perceived the CCTV installations, lighting improvements and food programs in high schools as the BMA’s most effective projects.
