Passenger traffic at Suvarnabhumi airport has decreased by nearly seven percent during the first five months of the 2013. However, traffic is still congested in the country’s main airport, although it is now at a less critical state.
According to a Bangkok Post report, the combined passenger volume at the airport from January to May decreased by 6.83% year-on-year to 21.8 million people. The amount of flights servicing the airport also went down by 14.8% to 120,900 according to data from the Airports of Thailand Plc.
Suvarnabhumi airport General manager Rawewan Netrakavesna attributed the decrease to the low-cost carrier (LCC) traffic to Bangkok’s Don Mueang airport, which became fully functional last October.
