Two plans to improve congestion on roadways and sidewalks failed to take off as planned yesterday.
After officials announced July 1 would see Victory Monument traffic vans relocated and vendor-choked footpaths cleared, the vans are reportedly ignoring the new rules and the deadline for street vendors has been pushed back a month.
Told to park their vans near the Airport Rail Link Makkasan station, drivers said they’re not going to drive that far, according to the Bangkok Post, and want the junta to reconsider.
Meanwhile street vendors in front of Siam Square and other locations frustrating to navigate on foot have yet to budge, state-run media reports, due to “logistical issues.”
Areas identified to be cleared include Rama I Road around Siam Square, Soi On Nut, Ratchadamnoen Klang Avenue, Pratunam and areas near the Central World shopping mall.
