Traffic court to open next month

A lack of enforcement and consequence are the oft cited reasons for irresponsible and unsafe driving.

To help address the latter, Bangkok will open a traffic court as early as next month.

Police Maj. Gen. Adul Narongsak, the capital’s top traffic cop, said help has been sought from various agencies, including the attorney general, judiciary, transportation and correctional departments to cooperate in establishing the court.

Many motorists simply ignore traffic tickets, Adul said, and the court would give teeth to their penalties – pay the fine or do the time – which in this case would be up to a six months in jail, The Nation reported.

Hopefully this doesn’t mean comedy traffic school is close behind.
