Talk about bargain hunters. Thailand has long held appeal to low-budget backpackers looking to enjoy extended-to-indefinite travel on a shoestring budget.
Even then, choosing to take advantage of regularly violent social upheaval for a free night’s sleep in protester-occupied Lumpini Park seemed a stretch.
But that’s exactly what’s happening, at least according to an image of two foreign campers lounging beside a tent in the park posted to Facebook on Sunday.
“Tourists expose themselves to the air of Bangkok,” Facebook user Suvinit Aum Pornnavalai wrote. “They camp out overnight. Bangkok is one of the most affordable cities for tourists!”
Maybe they thought it was a local festival under way, or perhaps they became instantly committed to the protesters’ cause after hearing the cacophony of whistles and fiery rhetoric.
Nah, probably just cheap.
