Tourist police play matchmaker for 99-year-old Swiss man in search of his lost Thai wife

Tourist police have helped a 99-year-old Swiss national reunite with his 70-year-old Thai wife, whom he had lost contact with three years ago after a 20-year-long marriage.

Wait, so … did gramps call it quits and later have a change of heart? Did she? Or did he honestly just lose the phone number of his wife of 20 years?

But hey, far be it from us to not fall for this love story hook, line and sinker just because it’s got a few, um … Swiss cheese-like holes in it.

According to Tourist Police, Emile Jean-Petit-Matile arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport on Friday with nothing but a piece of paper with his wife’s old address scribbled on it. Happy to help the foreigner fulfill his wish of “spending his final days with his love,” they went to work.

The police first went to an address on Koh Phangan find the Swiss national’s wife, named Krajang Kluboon, but learned she had moved. A quick search then led them to her new home, conveniently located not far from the old address.

Gee, that was easy.

When police found Krajang Klub-oon, she allegedly shed tears of joy that her nonagenarian husband had finally come back for her. As one does.

She said that the couple were officially married in 2005, when he was but a young man in his 80s, after already having lived together for 7 years. They then became separated and lost all communication three years ago when Matile had to return home for medical treatment. No, that doesn’t make sense to us either.

Tourist Police deputy commander Pol. Maj. Gen. Surachet Hakpan, who recently got some serious publicity by rounding up tuk-tuks responsible for bilking tourists at the Grand Palace and for posting some oh-so-humble photos (example below), announced that the Swiss national is scheduled to fly to Koh Phangan today, where local police will reunite him with his wife.

Maj. Gen. Surachet posted this photo on June 17, comparing his unit to Marvel superheros with a caption: “In the real world, superheroes don’t need special abilities, just really special hearts.”

The Tourist Police Bureau shared the photos of their deputy chief alongside the delighted Matile and some Thai Airways employees whose company is scoring some sweet publicity by sponsoring his flight to Koh Phangan.

Godspeed, young lovers. Godspeed.
