The Department of Land Transport (DLT) suspended the license of the cabbie who allegedly admitted to harassing a female customer sexually and verbally after a video clip of the event went viral.
Yesterday, the DLT revoked Somchai Simli’s taxi license for six months. He also has to pay a THB5,000 fine for trying to touch the woman. The police investigation revealed that the cabbie’s license had expired on Aug. 21 of last year. They will also investigate whether or not he was on drugs, reported Bangkok Post.
The investigation was conducted by the DLT and Metropolitan Police after the passenger posted photos of the driver touching her. She also reported that he verbally abused her and used obscene words.
The viral video, shared on the YouLike Facebook page Wednesday night, showed Somchai reaching out his hand to touch the leg of a woman in the back seat.
A message explained that the woman and her friend took the cab from Sukhumvit Soi 11 to On Nut Soi 46. After the woman’s friend left the cab on Soi Phatthanakan 25, Somchai chatted with her before the verbal abuse began and he reached out to touch her.
The DLT announced that Somchai’s cab belongs to Baworn Taxi Cooperative. They will be fined THB1,000 for not reporting their driver’s information to authorities. It was also revealed that the taxi company lost its registration papers two years ago.
