One man in the northern city of Chiang Mai had more questions than answers when he woke up yesterday morning after a drinking binge only to find he was inside a street drain underneath a city street.
Local police were just as perplexed as the hungover man when they responded to reports that people heard noises coming from deep in the drain, reported Sanook.
They were shocked to put their ears to the ground and hear Thai man Jaseu Jafoo, 29, calling to them from two meters underground.
Since the area he was in could not be easily opened, officers directed the man to walk about 10 meters until he was underneath a manhole cover that could be easily and safely removed.
They opened the cover and pulled the man out. They sent him home for a shower, since he smelled very bad, and then asked him to meet them at the station to explain what had happened.
Unfortunately, Jaseu had no answers. The hotel kitchen worker told cops that he went drinking with friends and then his memory of the evening is a blur.
He did not know how he had come to be inside a city drain. He had also lost several items including his wallet, a collectible King Rama V coin, and an expensive gold necklace.
Police are unsure if he lost the items or passed out and was robbed. They were also confused by how he got into the drain, since there is no easy entry point into the sewer system.
Their investigation is ongoing.
