Tops supermarket at Sukhumvit soi 33 will be closed for two days for a big cleaning after someone captured a video of a rat roaming free in its bakery section yesterday.
In the clip, a big ol’ rat is having a field day stomping all over some fancy frosted donuts and licking the crap out of them. When he notices that his antics are being watched, he dashes into a corner, only to come back to the sweet pastries for one last, lusty lick before climbing the bakery case and disappearing.
Central Food Retail, the company which operates Tops, has issued an apology yesterday following the germy, viral video of the rat nibbling donuts that were for sale to their customers.
They closed the store right after the video circulated online yesterday. They have also said they will throw away all baking equipment and trays in that bakery department and bring in a pest control company to make sure there are no unpleasant creatures in the supermarket.
“The company admits our mistake, and we sincerely apologize for the inevitable incident at the branch in question,” Tops Thailand’s online statement said.
Inevitable? Well, we can only hope no one bought those donuts after.
