Top 10 Bangkok Bus Rider Complaints

Bus is without a doubt the most hated form of transportation for Bangkok commuters.

Transport Minister Chadchart Sittipunt, who’s been busy empathizing with our city’s beleaguered bus commuters, put together a Facebook poll recently to find out what bothers riders most.

The Top 10 bus service problems that solicited most complains are:

1. Bus drivers speeding and driving dangerously.

2. Bus drivers’ inability to pick up and drop off passengers at bus stops.

3. Worsening bus conditions.

4. Idling at bus stops for too long and causing traffic jams.

5. Insufficient amounts of buses on some routes.

6. Unreliability of buses.

7. Too short running time on some routes.

8. Rude bus conductors who occasionally drink and smoke while on duty.

9. Taxis and vans parking on left lane, causing traffic gridlock.

10. Lack of information at bus stops.

Route No. 8 bus was named Bangkok’s worst bus route, receiving a total of 223 points. The bus runs between Happy Land Market in Bangkapi district and Saphan Phut Market in Phra Nakhon district.

Also-rans for worst route in Bangkok are No. 44 (31 points), No. 1 (23 points), No. 16 (18 points), No. 92 (18 points), No. 75 (17 points), and No. 122 (17 points).

This morning, Chadchart posted a photo of himself riding the No.8 bus, saying that the poor service was mainly due to the ineffective management of the overall system. Low pay for bus conductors and drivers forced them to compete with other buses on the roads resulting in unpleasant service, he added.
