Three men arrested for beating dog to death for dinner

Three hungry men were arrested Tuesday after police said they beat to death a stray dog they wanted to eat for dinner.

Although the incident happened five months ago, police were acting on a recent tip in the cold case by witnesses who said they saw the men beat the dog and take it away on a motorcycle five months ago.

Samart Plaekrathok, Teerasak Koworaklang, and Likhit Srirasksa, all 22, were reportedly out drinking in Nakhon Ratchasima on a September night when they saw the dog and decided it was dinner time, according to Khaosod English.

Police are still seeking a fourth suspect, believed to be an active-duty soldier in Bangkok.

Police said CCTV footage clearly showed the four men and the entire incident, police Col. Yongyot Polladej said.

Since the crime was committed before the enactment of stricter penalties for animal abuse, the three suspects only face up to one month in jail and a THB1,000 fine. Under the new Animal Welfare Act, they would have faced up to two years in prison and a THB40,000 fine.
