Three Nigerian nationals living inside Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport nearly two months have been surviving on the generosity of airport employees.
Airport employees on Tuesday brought food and supplies to the three who have been unable to either reach their destinations in Myanmar and Laos due to the lack of flights or leave their airport without visas.
Two of the men arrived March 21 via an Emirates flight and expected to transfer aboard Lao Airlines to Laos.
Another man who landed March 24 on an Etihad Airways flight was booked to continue to Myanmar via Bangkok Airways.
Both flights were canceled along with most others due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand on Saturday announced that it would extend the ban on international passenger flights until June 30.
The three travelers have been tested and do not have COVID-19.
It doesn’t take a pandemic for people to become longtime airport inhabitants. In 2017, a family of eight from Zimbabwe, including young children, who said they were fleeing persecution became trapped in legal limbo and were unable to leave the airport for over three months.
