Thammasat Hospital launches prayer program to calm patients during long waits for medical attention

Thammasat University Hospital has begun leading prayers for waiting patients as a way to improve their moods and mental health. So far, it seems to be working.

About two months ago, there was a viral clip of a man who angrily yelled at hospital staff after being informed that his appointment with the doctor was postponed. Hoping to prevent more patient outbursts like this, Thammasat Hospital has started morning prayers.

Currently, there are two departments taking part in this activity: orthopedics and outpatient services.

According to Pathra Thaweesarp, head of the outpatient department, this activity is aimed at improving the mental health of patients; who often do nothing during long, tedious hours of waiting for their doctors, according to MCOT.

Nainarong Radomlek, head of the orthopedics department, said that good mental health leads to better physical health. He also revealed that, since launching this activity, he receives less complaints, interactions between patients and staff have improved and the patients give their full cooperation to the staff, reported T News

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jittanad Hawanon, director of Thammasat Hospital, noted that the prayers keep patients calm. The director hopes to make Thammasat Hospital a hospital of smiles with this activity.
