Thais, mostly those of Chinese descent, will spend about THB3,600 each during this year’s Chinese New Year festival, according to an estimate from Kasikorn Bank.
Much of that THB5.8 billion total will go toward offerings of meat, vegetables, fruit, candles and incense sticks, as well as joss paper.
Although that’s a 4 percent increase over 2013, it’s less than last year’s 6 percent due to rising debt and “The Troubles,” NNT reported.
