Thais are celebrating Songkran by gambling in Myanmar

The National News Bureau of Thailand is reporting that many Thai holidaymakers are stopping by Myanmar for some gambling before heading home for the Songkran holidays.

This Monday, Ranong Tourist Business Association President Sonchai Uitekkeng revealed that Thai visitors to Ranong province had spiked in recent days, a phenomenon that he believes is attributable to the close availability of gambling in neighboring Myanmar.

The most popular casinos along the Thai-Myanmar border are at Victoria Point, a short distance from Ranong.

Sonchai said that he expects even more visitors to flood into Ranong during the actual dates of Songkran.
