In Cambridge, Massachusetts, many Thais and foreigners gathered at Bhumibol Adulyadej Square to mourn the death of HM the King. The square was built to commemorate the late monarch’s birthplace at Mount Auburn hospital on Dec. 5, 1927.
Thai nationals in Boston and across the United States mourned the death of HM the King.
According to Thiradej Venthanakorn, president of the Thai-Boston Association, the King Of Thailand Birthplace Foundation (KTBF) called on Thais in Boston and nearby areas to mourn HM the King’s death at King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts at 7pm on October 13, EST, reported Thai News Bureau.
A large number of Thai nationals were also gathered at Buddha Thaitharam temple in New York to mourn at 7:30pm, EST, on Thursday. Prayers have been arranged at the temple for mourners daily until October 16.
Many Thais living abroad learned of the news from Facebook and unexpectedly to pay homage to the late monarch.
King Bhumibol Adulyadej passed away at 3:52 p.m. on October 13 at Siriraj hospital. The 89-year-old monarch reigned over Thailand for 70 years.
