Thailand’s tallest woman died at 24

Thailand’s tallest woman, who was once recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world’s tallest woman in the world, died at the age of 24 on Saturday.

Malee Duangdee, who was measured 212 centimeters, died from a heart attack on Saturday at a hospital in her hometown of Trat province.

The doctors said Malee’s death followed a long history of chronic disease including high blood pressure, heart disease and a brain tumor, Komchadluek reported.

Malee had been struggling with her health since she was diagnosed with a brain tumor at nine years old. Before she passed way, she lived with her family in Bo Rai district and worked at a rubber plantation.

Malee’s death comes less than a year after the tallest man in Thailand, Pornchai Saosri, died at the age of 26 last November. He stood 257 centimeters tall.

Pornchai would have been taller than Sultan Kosen from Turkey, the record-holding tallest living man, who measured 251 centimeters in 2011. However, due to Pornchai’s illness, he could not stand up to be properly measured.

Pornchai’s tragic death also followed various illnesses related to his height including high blood pressure.

Pornchai and Malee had a chance to meet in December 2013, when they both consulted with the doctors about their illnesses at Ramathibodi Hospital in Bangkok.
