Thailand’s strict censorship laws extend to anime

Thailand censors A LOT of stuff, but perhaps the country’s least-known area of clamping down is animated cartoons.

Recently still images from the popular childrens’ show Sailor Moon appeared on Thai TV, but with much of the content blurred out.

Although the episode originally appeared on Japanese television in 1992, it was broadcasted in Thailand early last year with some remarkale edits.

The blog Thailog introduced the issues again this past Friday by posting stills from the show online.

Most of the censorship seems to pertain to scantily clad women, but in one instance an animated boy in his underpants was blurred as well. Scenes that involved blood were also heavily edited.

This is how the original image appeared on Japanese TV.
