Thai health officials say the second MERS patient in the country is in stable condition as they rush to reassure the public about the virus.
The patient, a 71-year-old man from Oman who traveled to Bangkok earlier this month, has been treated at Bamrasnaradura Hospital in Nonthaburi since Saturday, the Department of Disease Control said.
He still has a fever and is being given oxygen, but he is able to walk, talk and eat by himself.
Another person who had been in close contact with the Omani man is being monitored as he is susceptible to catching the virus.
A total of 32 people have been quarantined, with another eight people identified as at-risk and also due to be monitored, Reuters reported.
The department said it will ask airlines to screen passengers before boarding flights to Thailand.
Meanwhile the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has instructed Thai embassies and consulates to communicate to the international community that the spread of the virus was under control and being handled in line with international standards.
The Department of Disease Control also advised people with congenital diseases to avoid traveling to the countries affected with MERS. The majority of cases have been in the Middle East.
