Thailand’s Food and Drug administration has issued an official health warning regarding unlicensed sexual performance drugs illegally sold online — namely, that they can kill you.

Though the dangers surrounding the country’s illegal sex enhancement products isn’t news, the FDA is now alleging that fake pills could have fatal consequences.

Which, if true, would be kind of a lot to risk for a few minutes of pleasure.

Speaking at a press conference this morning, Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Surachoke Tangwiwat publicly addressed the issue — after being prompted by posts on the popular Facebook page Drama Addict (no, we’re not kidding) — at the FDA office outside of Bangkok.

Apparently, an online retailer has been falsely advertising what they describe as “Girly Sex” medication, and inaccurately claiming they’ve received certification from the FDA, reported Workpoint.

The store goes as far as to use an import tax slip — which in reality, has no affiliation with the FDA — as a front for their bluff.

At today’s presser, Surachoke also issued a reminder that all medications can only be sold by licensed pharmacists given how important it is for patients’ allergies and medical history to be taken into consideration.

Fake or low quality pills can lead to severe side effects and even death, he said.

Furthermore, all advertisements must also be approved by the FDA to avoid unverified claims and ensure citizens’ safety.

According to Thailand’s 1967 Drug Act, anyone that sells or imports illegal drugs can face up to three years in and/or a fine up to THB5,000 (US$150). Advertising without permission, meanwhile, is punishable by a fine not exceeding THB100,000 (about US$3,000).

Of course, while sex pills technically require a prescription, they can easily be bought from shady sex toy vendors on Sukhumvit. Read more about these drugs and the movement to legalize sex toys here.
