Thailand’s first F1 race might head for Phuket instead of Bangkok

The Tourism and Sports Ministry’s Somsak Phurisisak said late last week that continuous protests against the F1 race to be held in Bangkok in 2015 might prompt event organizers to move the race to Phuket instead.

According to the Phuket News, the original proposal to hold the F1 race at Bangkok’s Rattanakosin Island has been met with considerable protests from environmentalists and local residents.

The idea to move the race to Phuket must first be approved by the International Motoring Federation (FIA), before it is made official. According to Phurisisak, if the FIA insists that the event must be held in Bangkok, the idea may have to be scrapped.
