Thailand’s domestic killings are increasing

A report from the Women and Men Progressive Movement Foundation, published this Wednesday, revealed that Thailand is facing an increasing number of murders resulting from domestic abuse.

A vast majority of these murders – some 90% – involved violence perpetrated by men against women.

The Foundation revealed in its study that domestic violence had undergone a rise of nearly 10% between 2011 and 2012. In 2011, 49.7% of the murders reported in the local press involved domestic violence, whereas in 2012 this figure jumped to 59.16%.

The Nation also reported that as much as 60% of the news stories surveyed by the Foundation involved homicide.
