Thailand win AFF Futsal Championship

Thailand won their ninth Asean title beating Australia 2-1 in the final of the AFF Futsal Championship last night.

Supporters at the Bangkok Thonburi University Stadium had to wait until the 13th minute for the opening goal from Suphawut Thueanklang.

Thailand continued to attack Australia in search of a second goal and they were rewarded in the 26th minute when Suphawut scored his second with a long range effort.

Jarrod Basger scored a consolation goal for Australia but it was too late to deny Thailand.

Focus will now turn to the SEA Games in December, and after Thailand’s victory they will enter the tournament as one of the favorites.

“Of course everyone has their eyes on the SEA Games and we are no different but we showed that we are still dominant in the region,” said Victor Hermans, Thailand coach.

“For the SEA Games, I think that we can go to Myanmar with just ten players from this current squad here plus several others”
