After its rocky auction of the nation’s 3G data spectrum, the Thai government is now preparing to auction off digital TV licenses as well.
This Tuesday, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission set initial prices for the auction, which will take place in August or September.
According to the Financial Times, the auction should bring in THB15.2 billion, which the commission will use to subsidize the purchase of set top boxes, which will allow owners of analog TVs to receive digital signals.
Television currently accounts for 60% of Thailand’s overall advertising spending.
