Thailand sends romantic promo to Cannes

Thai officials say a short romantic film promoting the kingdom will show at the Cannes Film Festival in May.

In an announcement via state media, it was unclear whether “Sen Thang Rak” or “Love en Route” was submitted to be shown out of competition during the 68th annual festival or whether other arrangements had been made.

The seven-minute film features a tourist from the United States who travels in the footsteps of the owner of an Instagram account named “Love_en_Route” in the hope of befriending her. The pair travel to various provinces throughout Thailand where they eventually develop a relationship.

The film was a joint project by the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources to promote Thai tourism.

According to Apinan Poshyananda, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, the film will also be shown in hospitals, planes, and schools in France.

Fortunately you can pretend to be either Joel or Ethan Coen (Cannes 2015 judges panel co-presidents) and judge the film for yourself as it was posted to YouTube last month.
