Thailand saw a 19% rise in foreign tourist traffic in the first months of 2013

Thailand attracted over 8.8 million foreign visitors between the months of January and April 2013, the Kasikorn Research Centre revealed earlier this week. The Centre expressed optimism that more than 25 million foreign visitors will come to Thailand this year.

In a Nation report, the research body said most of the new tourists are from China. They also anticipated that the number of Chinese tourists would increase by four million, dwarfing last year’s 2.76 million increase.

During the first quarter of the year, tourism suffered some adverse domestic setbacks like the increase in minimum daily wage and increased value of the baht compared to other regional currencies.
