Health officials on Tuesday afternoon reported six more coronavirus cases in the kingdom, raising the total reported since the outbreak began to 25.
Among the new six patients were four Thais – a couple who recently returned from Japan and two transportation drivers, according to Suwanchai Wattanayingcharoenchai, chief of the Disease Control Department.
As for the husband and wife who had been in Japan, Suwanchai said officials could not yet confirm where they were infected with the virus.
Of the 25 cases discovered in the past month, eight have recovered and been discharged from the hospital.
The number of cases had risen to 19 over the weekend on the heels of another six reported one week ago. Thailand had the first confirmed case of infection outside of mainland China, where the outbreak began, and has consistently recorded the most patients.
On Friday, the first known case of domestic human-to-human transmission was reported after a taxi driver fell ill.
The coronavirus has now infected more than 20,000 people and killed at least 425 in China, according to that nation’s health agencies. The 39-year-old Hong Kong man who died in hospital this morning had traveled briefly to Wuhan late last month and took ill after returning home.
He was the second to die outside of China; a Wuhan man died Sunday in the Philippines.
